Liberty International Insurance Reshapes Asia Pacific Leadership Team
Liberty International Insurance has announced key leadership updates in its Asia Pacific division, promoting Sydney-based Robert Mercer to Head of Claims for the region as part of a larger reorganization.
In addition to Mr. Mercer’s advancement, other Liberty Specialty Markets team members across Australia have also received new responsibilities. Notably, Tibor Nagy, previously CFO for AIG Pacific, will transition from Sydney to Singapore to assume his new role as Liberty International Insurance’s Asia Pacific CFO.
This restructuring follows Liberty Mutual’s recent integration of its Asia Pacific retail and commercial/specialty business units under Matthew Jackson, who is based in Singapore. “We have spent the past months building our regional structure and are excited to work with our talented team,” said Mr. Jackson. The team manages brands like Liberty Insurance, Liberty Specialty Markets, and Liberty General Insurance.
In Australia, Melbourne-based Underwriting Manager Daniel Hingston has been appointed as Head of Casualty Australia. Meanwhile, Victorian Branch Manager Donna Niblock will step into the role of NSW Branch Manager, taking over from Paul Scales, who will now serve as Head of Client & Broking Distribution Asia Pacific.
Sydney-based John Campbell is promoted to Head of Casualty Asia Pacific, supporting Marcus Thomas, Head of Casualty and Professional & Financial Risks Asia Pacific, also based in Sydney. Alan Thorn, Brisbane-based Head of Casualty Specialties Asia Pacific, will now add life sciences to his portfolio, which already includes environmental impairment liability. Gavin Goldsbrough steps in as Head of Client Engagement Australia.
In Singapore, Vidhi Kapoor joins as Asia Pacific Regional Head of HR, bringing 16 years of experience from Citibank. David Tam has been promoted to Asia Pacific CIO.
“We’re thrilled to see our leaders embrace expanded roles and are excited to welcome Vidhi and Tibor, who bring strong expertise to our executive team,” said Mr. Jackson.
With his promotion, Mr. Mercer now oversees retail claims in addition to his ongoing responsibilities for commercial and specialty claims. He first took on an expanded leadership role in 2020, stepping into the position of Deputy Head of Claims for Asia Pacific, where he led professional and financial lines claims alongside a broader suite of services. He now succeeds Carlos Alberto Martinez, Head of Claims for Asia Retail Markets, who is set to retire next month after an 18-year tenure.
Founded in 1912 and headquartered in Boston, Liberty Mutual Insurance ranks as the world’s eighth-largest property and casualty insurer, with a workforce of over 40,000 employees in 29 countries.
